The grassroots get greener

Part anomaly, part possible clue to the future. The story of the election of Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter is an instructive and enjoyable read.

“Congresswoman-elect set her own terms: No one thought Carol Shea-Porter had a shot. The Democratic Party chairman didn’t know her name. And then …” Click here for the article in the Los Angeles Times.

My comment: As the new Gilded Age continues, the ungilded get involved to address the issues that matter to them. This plus the ubiquity of cell phone videos and YouTube as a corrective to the public’s short attention span will mean that our elected representatives can more readily be held accountable for their commitments (promises) to the electorate, i.e., to us. Expect more “upsets” in the next election cycle.
