Power beguiles, senatorial power beguiles absolutely

There is grace in knowing when to leave the public stage. Its lack is evidenced when one remains too long. And so it is with Joe Lieberman. The good Senator shows that even in the dimming light of a political career, when push comes to shove, what is in the innermost heart of almost all elected officials is their central commitment to keeping power, power for themselves. It is the sun around which all other concerns, including family, revolve.

No news here. But it is prudent to keep in mind when dealing in political life, that the lifers, the careerists, will sacrifice most anything for the illusion of control that (some) political power brings. That most anything may well include us.
