Concerning Zeit Guy and zeitguy.com:
Zeit Guy is an early boomer, so nicknamed by some younger friends. The name, of course, is a pun on the German word zeitgeist or spirit of the times. These friends tell me (from the stories I’ve told them) that they see me as having ridden on the forward edge of many of the cultural and political waves that have been arising and rippling since the 60′s.
Three major influences on my thinking: Robert Nisbet, Fernando Flores and Humberto Maturana. My interests include community, politics, language, technology, biology, and our affective lives – temperaments, moods and emotions.
No one can say and pass the laugh test that they embody the zeitgeist of their generation. And I’m usually committed to meeting this minimal standard. So with tongue touching cheek, I adopted Zeit Guy as a nom de blog. Whether my writings here contains something “spirited,” is for you, the reader, to say.
The subtitle of these chronicles was inspired in part from the last lines of the Percy Mayfield R&B classic, “The Danger Zone:”
… the world is in an uproar
The danger zone is everywhere
